Mantles
THE PENDRAGON
Aliases: The Once and Future King, Arthur, The King Under The Mountain
Arthur is the Once and Future King, the person who grasped at godhood and failed. He waits patiently for his time to come again (and again, and again) but has yet to succeed. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and stepping into the role of Arthur is no different. Assuming the Mantle of Arthur means wrapping oneself in a frac- tious, unfulfilled, but incredibly storied legend. He was a slayer of monsters, a Roman emperor, and a dozen other things — including whatever you make of him. The full details of Arthur’s history and broken mantle can be found in Chapter One.

GUINEVERE-WHO-PRESERVES
Aliases: Gwenhwyfar, Gwenivar, Guenever
Guinevere-Who-Preserves is the administrator of Avalon and Camelot and the more personable of the pair.
Guinevere rules at Arthur’s side as his equal. Her level head serves as the voice of reason to others Fatebound to the Arthurian Legend and as counterpoint to Merlin’s outlandish “advice.” Though she is loyal to Arthur, they frequently find themselves in disagreements or divided by differing priorities. Guinevere is always a private person, subjected to a thousand rumors prying into her personal life.

Purviews: Beauty, Prosperity, Order, Moon
Birthrights: Followers (Subjects),
Fatebindings: NEMESIS (for when Arthur is an NPC), LODESTONE

Threshold), surviving the dangers of being at the Pendragon’s side (the Descent).
MEDRAUT THE RECKONER
Aliases: Mordred, Modredus, Modred
Medraut the Reckoner is the equal and opposite reaction to Camelot, locked in perpetual conflict with the Pendragon and his allies. For they think themselves righteous, and Medraut is here to remind them that they are not. Every kingdom is built on bones, of the conquered, oppressed, neglected, and murdered—and Camelot is a kingdom like any other. Medraut won’t let anyone forget it.
Closer to a Titan than a God in some ways, Medraut is viewed as dangerous and untrustworthy by other Arthurian Scions, and often treated poorly by them. Small wonder, then, that they tend to become vengeful; Fate aims to set them and Camelot to destroying one another, and seldom is it denied.

Birthrights: Relic (Clarent), Followers (the dispossessed), Guide (Titan allies)

in check (The Theophany).
MERLIN THE WILD
Aliases: Myrddin, Myrddin Wyllt, Merlinus Ambrosius
An ancient Mantle of sinister origins, Merlin the Wild prefers to keep to the shadows: those behind the Pendragon, those in the secret places of the World, and those of unsuspecting enemies of Camelot, about to meet a swift demise. He always keeps a degree of distance between himself and those in Arthur’s orbit. It is his lot to stand apart, to know, and then to act—decisively, and often without anyone else knowing.
Merlin frequently clashes with other Arthurian Scions and those in around them, ill trusting their judgment. Threats to Camelot can come from anywhere, aft all. Merlin will deal with them regardless of what anyone thinks.

LANCELOT DU LAC
Aliases: Launcelot, LakeKnight
Noble yet brooding, devout yet tempted, Lancelot du Lac is a Mantle of intense passions disharmoniously joined with the utmost gallantry. Lancelot is always pulled thin between the things they care about, no matter the era or Demigod.
Be it duty to king against desire, obligations to bandmates against personal ambition, commitment to one fight taking priority over another—they care. In caring, they struggle. In struggle, they are vulnerable. And in being vulnerable, they sacrifice one thing for another, never fitting perfectly into any one role. Their vast heart bleeds with every mighty beat.

GALAHAD, THE KNIGHT SUPREME
Aliases: Galeas, Galath
Sprung from the Mantle of Lancelot du Lac, Galahad the Knight Supreme, is perfect. Perfectly strong, perfectly pious, perfectly devoted; he must be. It’s such an isolating thing, to always need to climb higher and higher. The Mantle is constantly reaching for more things to take into itself, stitching together everything it can. It is he who seeks the Holy Grail, he who is the strongest of the Knights of the Round Table, he who is most beloved by Arthur and who surpasses doubt-ridden Lancelot and blithe Percival. If the Knight Supreme was not so unfailingly loyal and devoted to self-refinement, the Mantle might well have seen completion a long time ago.

NIMU , LADY OF THE LAKE

Born from the spring of the Plant Dôn’s mysterious past, Nimuë is as water, assuming the shape of whatever story of Threshold), surviving the dangers of being at the Pendragon’s side (the Descent). her that she pleases. There are as many Mantles associated with this figure as there are little Ladies of the Lake. The Lady of the Lake is Nimuë as mother-protector of the Arglwyddes y Llyn (p. 149), patient and wise. Watching the happenings of the World through sea and puddle both, she is conservative in deciding to intervene or help. But when she does, she commits fully, with immense charity and dedication.

PERCIVAL THE HOLY FOOL
Aliases: Parzival, Peredur
Percival, blithe and innocent is the wildcard of the Arthurian Scions. The youngest Mantle, Percival is a good-natured agent of change—often, entirely by accident. They’re drawn to situations of tense conflict, invariably ending up embedded in the thick of things before coming out usually no worse for wear. They have a personal magnetism that defies belief, making friends and stealing hearts with ease. With pluck and with optimism (the sincerity of which is sometimes uncertain), Percival cheers on their friends and goes boldly from one adven-
ture to the next.

GAWAIN, THE IRREPRESSIBLE WANDERER
Gawain does and goes where he will as he wants, loyal to his compatriots but unbound by anything—except, for the most part, his own sense of honor. Inclined to intemperance, Gawain regularly ends up in trouble with enemies, lovers, or some combination thereof. Yet, he is not without morals, and certainly not foolish. A certain worldly wisdom is gained from carousing your way around the World, as is a sense of responsibility for your own actions. Gawain carries both as his arms and is proud to be the Knight he is.
